  • Shame on you Here & Now for promoting bad behavior as an addiction! Sex “addiction” is not that, rather it is a choice to engage in a reprehensible behavior. It is no different than overeating which we certainly don’t call an “addiction.” We tell people with weight problems that they need to work through the issues that lead them to substitute food for feelings and then alter their behavior. The same is true of using sex to cover unpleasant feelings. The word “addiction” has a very specific meaning, based on science & physiology. There are biochemical and physical changes in the brain (as with addiction to certain drugs). When that drug is taken away, the body has to re-learn how to function in its absence and this can be life threatening. This is TOTALLY different than deciding not to look at porn or solicit sex which can be done at any time without harm to the person. It is a CHOICE. And using “addiction” instead of calling it what it is – bad behavior and a CHOICE – excuses the person from responsibility and demeans the struggle of those who truly have addictions.
