Copenhagen Prepares for Climate Talks

On Monday, the world spotlight will shine on Copenhagen, Denmark as the U.N.’s talks on climate change get underway. As many as 50,000 visitors could descend on the small Scandinavian nation to attend the two week long conference. We talk with Katie Rice, a reporter with the Copenhagen Post about how Danes have been preparing for the big event.

25 years ago today, a gas cloud escaped from a factory in Bhopal, India. The poison killed thousands of people in a disaster that continues to blight the city today. Union Carbide agreed to a compensation deal worth nearly five hundred million dollars. But campaigners are still demanding that the current owner, Dow Chemical, clean up Bhopal and admit full responsibility for the leak. The BBC’s Alan Little has just been there. He says that while 25 years may have passed, the tragedy continues to dominate the lives of those who live in the city.
