Andrew Wyeth (Lucy Cobos)
From “Christina’s World” to the “Helga” paintings, Andrew Wyeth was one of America’s most famous and most controversial painters. In the 40’s, Wyeth was heralded as a dark radical realist. He was later dismissed by some critics as “sentimental” when abstract painters like Jackson Pollack came along. Wyeth died this month at the age of 91. We’ll hear from a rare interview Andrew Wyeth gave to Robin Young in the 1980’s in which he talks about his work and his place in the art world. We also talk with Thomas Hoving, former director of New York’s Metropolitan Museum and a long-time friend and collaborator of Andrew Wyeth.

Candid, unpolished, and amazingly insightful, this was one of the best interviews of its kind I have ever heard in radio, and I’ve been listening for a very, very long time. Robin and her producers are to be congratulated and encouraged to give us more of the same flavor…

He captured life as he felt it through, people, places, and objects. One of my favorite pieces that I adore of his is “Wind from the Sea”.
To the Wyeth family thank you for the chance to see and enjoy your work.

Posted by Dave, on February 4th, 2009 at 2:41 pmGreat show on Wyeth. Please let us know the TV show for which you did this segment. Is there any way to obtain a copy of that show or find it on YouTube? My friends and I, who are huge Wyeth fans, would love to see it.
Thanks,
Dave
