A NEW G.I. BILL

We speak with Paul Rieckhoff, executive director and founder of “Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.”

THE AMERICAN RESTING PLACE

Listen
From Native American burial grounds, to Gettysburg, to the flat stone markers at Forest Lawn in California, our cemeteries tell us a lot about our history. Cultural historian Marilyn Yalon considers that history in her new book “The American Resting Place: Four Hundred Years of History Through Our Cemeteries and Burial Grounds,” and she joins us for a Memorial Day conversation.

SUMMER TRAVEL AND THE HIGH COST OF FUEL

Listen
With gas hovering around $4.00 a gallon, what are small business people in the travel and tourism industry doing to convince Americans to fill up the gas tank and drive? We speak to Suzanne Cook, senior vice president of research for the Travel Industry Association, and we hear from several business people who are offering different incentives to tourists.

THE HIGH COST OF FUEL

Listen
A marina owner in Kentucky says a lot of the big boats are staying tied up due to the high price of diesel. He also plans to stop selling fuel once the price hits $4/gallon, because his machines aren’t calibrated to charge that much. We hear from Larry Hellcamp of the Southern Komfort Resort and Marina on Kentucky Lake.

TED WILLIAMS AT WAR

Listen
On this Memorial Day, we revisit our conversation about the military career of Red Sox great Ted Williams. Williams was a flight instructor and a fighter pilot in World War II and Korea. We spoke with longtime Williams’ biographer Bill Nowlin, author of “Ted Williams at War”.
