In reading a new collection of previously unpublished works by writer Kurt Vonnegut, literary critic Steve Almond sees how the former World War II POW and author of “Slaugherhouse-Five” found his voice describing the horrors of war. Vonnegut died one year ago this month. The collection of Vonnegut short stories and essays is entitled “Armageddon in Retrospect.”
