No Longer a Glass Ceiling?

Listen
Two researchers make the case against the idea of a “glass ceiling,” a metaphor for a monolithic obstacle facing women as they climb the corporate ladder. Alice Eagly and Linda Carli write that women face a labyrinth instead. Did you know that marriage and parenthood are associated with higher wages for a man, but not for a woman worker? And what happens when a woman executive is assertive? Research shows it can reduce her chances for getting a job or advancing in her career. We’ll speak to Linda Carli, associate professor of psychology at Wellesley College.

Russian Elections

Listen
Gary Kasparov, former world chess champion and Putin-opponent, is in prison. And this weekend, Russians take part in parliamentary elections. We’ll get an update from Edward Lucas, Eastern European correspondent and former Moscow bureau chief for the Economist . He’s the author of the upcoming book “The New Cold War: The Future of Russia and the Threat to the West.”
