No Longer a Glass Ceiling?

Listen
Two researchers make the case against the idea of a “glass ceiling,” a metaphor for a monolithic obstacle facing women as they climb the corporate ladder. Alice Eagly and Linda Carli write that women face a labyrinth instead. Did you know that marriage and parenthood are associated with higher wages for a man, but not for a woman worker? And what happens when a woman executive is assertive? Research shows it can reduce her chances for getting a job or advancing in her career. We’ll speak to Linda Carli, associate professor of psychology at Wellesley College.

Russian Elections

Listen
Gary Kasparov, former world chess champion and Putin-opponent, is in prison. And this weekend, Russians take part in parliamentary elections. We’ll get an update from Edward Lucas, Eastern European correspondent and former Moscow bureau chief for the Economist . He’s the author of the upcoming book “The New Cold War: The Future of Russia and the Threat to the West.”

Oprah Winfrey has announced she will hit the campaign trail with presidential candidate, Barack Obama. Will Winfrey’s star power help Obama defeat Hillary Clinton in the key early primary states? We talk to syndicated columnist Clarence Page of the Chicago Tribune.

Laura Linney

Listen
